Why PTMS kaolin
How kaolin is processed into consistent industrial grades — and why magnetic separation is our edge.
From pit to product
A typical wet-processing route for kaolin is shown below. The exact flow sheet depends on the ore and the target grade.
Mining & selection
Raw kaolin is extracted from open pits and selected by quality so that each grade starts from suitable ore.
Slurrying & degritting
Crude clay is dispersed in water; sand, mica and coarse quartz are removed by screens and hydrocyclones.
Classification
Centrifuges or hydrocyclones split the clay by particle size to reach the target D50 and % < 2 µm.
Magnetic separation
High-intensity / high-gradient PTMS electromagnetic separators pull out weakly magnetic iron- and titanium-bearing minerals, raising brightness.
Bleaching & dewatering
Where required, chemical bleaching is followed by filter pressing and drying.
Calcination (optional)
Heating to around 650–1100 °C produces metakaolin or fully calcined kaolin with higher whiteness and oil absorption.
Milling & packing
Pulverising and air classification, then packing in 25 kg bags, 1 t jumbo bags or bulk.
We build the separators.
FOSHAN POWTECH TECHNOLOGY COMPANY LIMITED designs and manufactures PTMS electromagnetic and high-gradient magnetic separators for kaolin, feldspar, quartz and other non-metallic minerals. Operating our own equipment on our own kaolin means we understand how field strength, matrix and flow rate translate into Fe₂O₃ reduction and brightness gain.

Applications
Ceramics
Sanitaryware, tableware, porcelain tiles, electrical porcelain.
Catalyst
FCC catalyst matrix & in-situ crystallised zeolite, catalyst carriers.
Paper
Coating pigment for printing & writing papers and board; paper filler.
Fillers
Architectural & industrial paints, rubber, cables, plastics, adhesives, inks.
Fiberglass
E-glass & C-glass continuous filament, glass wool, alumina source for glass batch.
